Meijer’s Historic May 6 Triple Store Opening: New Locations in Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan

Meijer is making a major statement this spring. On May 6, 2026, the Grand Rapids-based retail giant will simultaneously open three new locations spanning three states — a rare triple grand opening that signals the company’s continued commitment to Midwest growth. The new stores include two massive 159,000-square-foot supercenters and a smaller-format grocery store, each bringing something unique to its community.

What’s Opening on May 6?

1. Bainbridge Township, Ohio — A Landmark Supercenter with a Storied Past

Perhaps the most talked-about of the three openings is the new Meijer supercenter at 7300 Aurora Road in Bainbridge Township, Ohio. The 159,000-square-foot store is built on the grounds of the beloved Geauga Lake amusement park, which closed its doors in 2007. The site is part of a broader redevelopment effort that also includes new apartments and a planned public park, breathing new life into a location that holds a special place in many Northeast Ohioans’ hearts.

This store marks Meijer’s 59th location in Ohio — a milestone worth noting, as Ohio holds a particularly special place in Meijer’s history. It was the first state outside of Michigan that Meijer expanded into, making every new Ohio opening a nod to the company’s legacy of growth.

Attorney Matt Wilson of [Your Firm Name] is proud to represent Meijer in Ohio, having played a key role in the real estate and legal work that makes landmark projects like the Bainbridge Township supercenter possible.

Shoppers at the new Bainbridge Township store can expect:

  • A full grocery department with fresh produce, bakery, meat, seafood, and deli
  • A floral department and garden center
  • Full-service pharmacy
  • General merchandise including electronics, toys, apparel, and sporting goods
  • Meijer’s popular mPerks loyalty program and Shop & Scan digital tools
  • Home delivery and curbside pickup services

2. Brownsburg, Indiana — Meijer’s 44th Hoosier State Location

The second supercenter opening on May 6 is located at 9202 E. 56th Street in Brownsburg, Indiana. At 159,000 square feet, it becomes Meijer’s 44th Indiana location and will serve the fast-growing Indianapolis suburban community with a full lineup of grocery and general merchandise offerings, including a drive-thru pharmacy, garden center, and apparel section.

3. Rochester Hills, Michigan — A New Era in Small-Format Grocery

The third opening is a bold step in a different direction. The 47,000-square-foot Meijer Grocery store at 1495 N. Rochester Road in Rochester Hills, Michigan, is part of Meijer’s growing small-format concept — designed for shoppers who want a faster, more focused trip without navigating a full supercenter.

This is Meijer’s third Meijer Grocery location in Michigan and its fourth overall, following the concept’s 2023 debut with two Detroit-area stores. The smaller footprint doesn’t mean fewer essentials: the Rochester Hills store will offer fresh produce, bakery, meat, seafood and deli departments, a card and floral area, a full-service pharmacy, health and beauty, and pet supplies — along with mPerks, Shop & Scan, home delivery, and pickup.

“This new Meijer Grocery location represents our continued investment in bringing value and convenience to customers right where they live and work,” said Maureen Mitchell, VP of the East Michigan Region. “Designed for convenience, the streamlined format makes it easy for customers to quickly find the fresh food and other essentials they need at the lowest prices every day.”

Why This Triple Opening Matters

This simultaneous three-state opening is more than a logistical feat — it reflects Meijer’s strategic vision for the future of retail in the Midwest. With over 500 locations across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Wisconsin, and more than 70,000 associates company-wide, Meijer continues to expand both its geographic reach and its store format options.

The May 6 openings showcase two distinct growth strategies working in parallel:

  • Supercenters for communities wanting one-stop shopping with full grocery, pharmacy, and general merchandise under one roof
  • Meijer Grocery for urban and suburban shoppers seeking a streamlined, convenience-first experience

This dual approach positions Meijer to compete across multiple retail segments simultaneously — a key advantage in an increasingly competitive Midwest grocery landscape.

Meijer in Ohio: A Long and Growing Relationship

Ohio has been central to Meijer’s expansion story since the very beginning of its growth outside Michigan. With 59 locations now calling the Buckeye State home, Meijer has become a trusted name for Ohio families from the Toledo suburbs to the Cleveland metro.

The Bainbridge Township opening in Geauga County is particularly significant for Northeast Ohio — not just because of the Geauga Lake nostalgia, but because it represents continued investment in a region that has welcomed Meijer as a community partner for decades.

Matt Wilson, who represents Meijer in Ohio, has been instrumental in facilitating the retailer’s real estate growth across the state, helping navigate the legal complexities of complex site developments like the former Geauga Lake property.
